Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy Equithrive products?

Equithrive products only are available from licensed veterinarians. Visit the “Where To Buy” page to find a veterinarian in your area that carries Equithrive products.

How can Equithrive products help my horse?

Equithrive products are used to manage chronic inflammation, a condition that is extremely common in horses in training and in geriatric horses. Untreated chronic inflammation leads to discomfort and underperformance. Equithrive products manage chronic inflammation to reduce stiffness, relieve soreness and speed recovery.

How long will it take for me to see improvements in my horse?

Users typically report significant improvement in their horses within two weeks of administering Equithrive products to their horses.

Are there any side effects associated with Equithrive use?

Equithrive Joint was introduced in December of 2008 and was the first equine product to contain a purified form of resveratrol. We have not had any adverse events reported to us in association with the use of Equithrive products. There are no known side effects with the use of Equithrive products.

Are there any contraindications with Equithrive products and other medications?

Equithrive does not interfere with the absorption of other medications and does not affect the effectiveness of other medications. There are no contraindications for the use of Equithrive products.

Will Equithrive products make lame horses sound?

Equithrive products are not intended to treat lame horses. Owners and trainers should always consult with a veterinarian in diagnosing and treating lameness. A thorough lameness examination is the most effective way to determine the cause of lameness. After a veterinarian has completed a lameness evaluation, they can propose a treatment regimen that will offer the horse the best chance for recovery and continued soundness.

Are Equithrive products a substitution for Bute (Phenylbutazone) or Banamine (Flunixen Meglumine)?

Bute and Banamine are extremely effective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The mode of action of these drugs (COX-2 inhibition) causes them to act very quickly. Bute and Banamine are most effective in treating severe inflammation over short periods of time. Equithrive products are most successfully used to manage low-grade chronic inflammation over long periods of time. In other words, Equithrive products are not a substitution for Bute and Banamine. Rather, Equithrive and these traditional NSAIDs are really best used in different situations.

Can Equithrive products be used in pregnant mares?

Formal studies have not been performed to evaluate the safety of Equithrive use in pregnant mares. Horse owners have reported using Equithrive products in pregnant mares without complication. However, owners use Equithrive products in pregnant mares at their own risk.

Are Equithrive products palatable to horses?

Equithrive Joint contains a yeast product with a malty aroma that horses find very palatable. As with any product, there will be some “picky eaters” that will not readily eat this product when first introduced. We recommend that the product be mixed with beet pulp or apple sauce to help acclimate a horse to a new product for the first couple of days, if needed. Equithrive RSV is an apple flavored paste that is very palatable to horses.
